Medical Services for Children
Children. While they usually seem carefree, they are actually one of Nevada’s most vulnerable populations. It is estimated that 20 percent or more of Nevada's youth are uninsured and many more are underinsured.
Since 1989, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals’ Positive Impact Program has improved the lives of area school children by providing those in need access to quality healthcare services.
Today, with the support of Clark County School District administrators and staff – and community minded medical providers – Positive Impact provides medical services to children in more than 70 schools in Henderson, Las Vegas, Boulder City, Laughlin and Searchlight. Participation is based on a family’s financial eligibility and the student’s medical needs. The program provides a structure through which school nurses refer children in need of emergent medical services for immediate assistance. The Positive Impact staff determines a child's eligibility, and students meeting eligibility criteria are offered healthcare services at no cost. If needed, parents or guardians are informed about additional community resources and provided assistance for prescriptions.
Positive Impact is not an insurance program and is not meant to duplicate services. Instead, it offers additional resources that would not otherwise be available to students.
The Positive Impact Program is funded by grants and donations of medical services and cash. The program assumes financial responsibility for healthcare provided and accepts any parental contributions offered.
