St. Rose Offers Care for the Tiniest Patients
The Maternal Child Centers at both the Rose de Lima and San Martín Campuses offer Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).
Mothers giving birth to high risk babies can receive care at either campus where the Level II nurseries provide advanced care for premature and ill infants born at 32 weeks or above.
The Level II NICUs feature advanced technology and board-certified neonatologists who tend infants 24 hours a day. The Rose de Lima Campus houses a 7-bed Level II NICU and 3-bed Level I Well Baby nursery while the San Martín Campus houses a 6-bed Level II NICU and a 4-bed Level I Well Baby nursery.
Level II nurseries can also be referred to as transitional nurseries, special care nurseries or NICU step-down units. They provide care for babies who need more help or closer watching than a Level I nursery can provide.
Babies in Level II may need the following types of care:
- Monitoring for apnea spells (forgetting to breathe)
- IVs or special medications
- An incubator or other assistance to maintain their body temperature
- Feeding assistance (for example, tube feedings or special help with bottle or breast feeding).
For more information on the Level II NICUs at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, please call 702.616.4622 at the Rose de Lima Campus or 702.492.8622 at the San Martín Campus.
