Komen for the Cure Grants $200,000 to R.E.D. Rose

(May 18, 2010 – Henderson, Nev.) – The R.E.D. Rose Program at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals has received $200,000 in continuing grant support from the Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to pay costs associated with screenings, diagnostic tests and financial support for breast cancer patients. An additional $5,000 was granted to assist women in obtaining breast prostheses through the Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Centers of Excellence.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States,” said Rod Davis, president/CEO of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals. “In 2009, there were nearly 200,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer in America and more than 40,000 deaths, so we are incredibly thankful for the continued generosity of Komen Southern Nevada. The funds they are providing will allow our R.E.D. (Responsible Early Detection) Rose Program to continue serving the women and men in our community who have been affected by breast cancer.”

The R.E.D. Rose Program is a collaborative effort between St. Rose Dominican Hospitals and the Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure that provides breast exams, mammograms, ultrasounds, surgical consultations and biopsies to women and men 49 and younger who lack adequate health care coverage or the financial means to obtain them. Support services such as utility, rent and food assistance are also available to anyone undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
