(June 10, 2010 – Henderson, Nev.) – The Artie J. Cannon Helping Hands of Henderson program – one of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals’ community benefit programs – has received $164,090 in support from several local agencies and companies.
Helping Hands of Henderson is a community-based transportation program. Staffed primarily by volunteers, Helping Hands helps Henderson residents over 60 years of age remain in their own homes and maintain their independence by providing transportation services to medical appointments, shopping and errands.
The grants were given by the following companies/agencies:
- State of Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division – $109,590 for transportation and volunteer care services for fiscal year 2011.
- City of Henderson CDBG – $24,500 in capital support to purchase a new handicap accessible program van in fiscal year 2011.
- Bank of America – $20,000 to support program operations.
- USAA Savings Bank – $10,000 to support program operations.
“Since its inception in 1995, Helping Hands and its volunteers have provided more than 20,000 rides for Henderson seniors,” said Rod Davis, president/CEO of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals. “The generosity of these five agencies and companies will ensure that we can continue to support senior residents in our community in the years to come.”
