St. Rose Offers In-Home Hospice Services
(HENDERSON, NV, March 10, 2008) - St. Rose Dominican Hospitals now offers in-home hospice services - the first in Henderson.
"Hospice is a philosophy of care that recognizes death as the final stage of life," said Rod Davis, president, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals. "We are pleased to be able to offer these important services to residents as they will help patients manage both symptoms and pain with quality and dignity."
Hospice care uses a multidisciplinary approach with a "Hospice Team" that consists of the patient's primary physician, hospice medical director, nurses, nursing assistant, chaplain, counselors and volunteers to manage the symptoms of the patient, educate and assist the family with care needs and help the family through grief with bereavement counseling and classes.
"St. Rose hospice services combine true compassion with the best in medical care for patients and their families - in the comfort and familiarity of the patient's home," said Joy Switlick, director of Home Health Services. "It is important that people realize that hospice services affirm life - they do not hasten or postpone death. St. Rose treats the patient rather than the disease and highlights the quality of life rather than its length."
