St. Rose Awards $171,000 in Grants to Organizations
(January 15, 2008, Henderson, NV) - St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, the community's only not-for-profit, religiously sponsored hospital system, has made more than $171,000 in grant awards to nonprofit organizations in Henderson and Las Vegas. This is the 17th year St. Rose has made such funding available. Grant awardees were notified in December 2007 and received the funding at a luncheon held January 15 at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals - Rose de Lima Campus.
"St. Rose has been committed to providing quality healthcare for more than 60 years," said Rod Davis, president of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals. "Awarding these grants to other nonprofit, health-related organizations enables us all to work toward improving the health and well being of even more of those in our community."
Community organization recipients included:
- Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada: $25,000;
- HELP of Southern Nevada: $25,000;
- Nevadans for Life: $25,000;
- St. Therese Center HIV Outreach: $25,000;
- Salvation Army/Henderson Adult Day Center: $20,000;
- Poverello House: $15,000;
- The Center of Independent Living: $11,544;
- Friends in the Desert Foundation, Inc.: $10,000;
- Giving Life Ministries; $10,000; and
- The Boys and Girls Club of Henderson: $6,000.
To be selected for a grant, an organization or program must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- address the greatest health needs of the community;
- emphasize prevention to addresses the underlying cause of health problems;
- contribute to a seamless continuum of care;
- build upon and mobilize existing services in the community; and
- engage diverse community stakeholders in implementation and oversight.
