Centers Treat Patients with Slow-Healing Wounds

About five million Americans suffer from wounds that won't heal due to contributing factors ranging from age, diet, smoking and circulatory problems to diabetes, arthritis and kidney disease.

The Wound Healing Center at St. Rose offers hospital based outpatient wound care, hypberbaric oxygen therapy and specialized treatment of chronic wounds and nonresponsive conditions such as diabetic leg ulcers, pressure ulcers or bed sores, bone infections, post-operative sounds and burns.

An extensive renovation of The Wound Healing Center was completed in May 2008 and will enable St. Rose to accommodate more patients while improving their entire treatment experience.

Changes at the Center include:

  • increasing the number of hyperbaric chambers from 2 to 3;
  • adding a fifth exam room with wheelchair accessibility;
  • adding a separate entrance that accommodates wheelchair patients; and
  • tripling the size of the waiting room and adding a wheelchair accessible restroom.

“The overall appearance of the center has been brightened to make it a more cheerful experience for patients,” said Heidi Montgomery, program director. “Our patients enjoy the extra space and the clean, fresh look of the new center.”

St. Rose's Wound Healing Centers offer hospital-based outpatient wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and specialized treatment of chronic wounds and non-responsive conditions, including:

  • Diabetic leg ulcers
  • Lower leg ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers or bed sores
  • Bone infection
  • Gangrene Skin tears or lacerations
  • Radiation burns
  • Post-operation wounds and infections
  • Failed or compromised skin grafts

In some cases, delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is beneficial. This involves a patient breathing 100 percent oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. This stimulates a number of physiological responses in the cells and tissues, promoting healing in even some of the most severe wounds.

St. Rose's Wound Healing Center in Henderson is located at 106 E. Lake Mead Parkway, Suite 107. The Center accepts patients by physician referral or self-referral by the patient.
